Request Basic Handgun

The Basic Handgun Course provides new and developing shooters with the knowledge and confidence to safely handle, operate, and maintain a handgun. Students will learn the universal safety rules, clearing procedures, proper grip and stance, and the fundamentals of defensive shooting. The course also introduces handgun types, ammunition basics, malfunctions, and essential gear, ensuring that participants leave with a strong foundation for responsible gun ownership and continued training.

- Understanding handgun actions (single-action, double-action, striker-fired)

- Target alignment methods (unsighted fire, flash sight picture, sighted fire)

How Time Will Be Spent
4 hours total time.
2 hours classroom time.
2 hour range time.
This 4-hour course combines interactive classroom instruction with practical live-fire training. The first 2 hours will be spent in the classroom, where students will learn core handgun safety rules, clearing procedures, the fundamentals of grip and stance, and the key differences between defensive shooting and marksmanship. The pace allows time for questions, discussion, and guided demonstrations to reinforce learning.
After the classroom portion, students will transition to the range for a 2-hour live-fire session. Under direct instructor supervision, participants will practice safe firearm handling, apply the fundamentals they’ve learned, and run basic defensive shooting drills. By the end of the class, you’ll leave with the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience needed to continue your development as a responsible handgun owner.

What to Bring to Range
- Functional handgun. (Range has rentals, if needed.)
- 50 rounds of ammunition.
- Range time fee.
- Hearing and eye protection. (Range has rentals, if needed.)
- Current identification.

Class Policies
- Students must wear close-toed shoes, i.e., no flip-flops, sandals, or any other shoe type allowing toes to be exposed.
- No photos or videos of any portion of class.
- Be on-time to class so as not to interrupt other students.
- No children allowed in class.
- No food or beverage.
- If you are sick or think you are getting sick, stay home. We are happy to get you re-scheduled. If you come to class sick, you will be asked to leave without any refund.
- No firearms, loaded or unloaded, or ammunition shall be presented or handled by students during any classroom portion of training.
- Waiver and Agreement will need to be signed before start of class.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellation 48 hours or more ahead of class time will result in a one-time re-schedule. No refunds are offered. Cancellations made within 48 hours of class time will forfeit the entirety of the class cost paid, i.e. no refund.
